Euro 2020 — Tournament App

A personal iPad app concept for the Euros: live scores, player stats and fixtures, with the soul of the sticker books I collected as a kid.

Background

The Euros and the World Cup are among the most-watched live events on the planet, and I wanted a recent, well-loved subject for a personal project showcasing modern UI and UX techniques. There was a nostalgic itch to scratch too. I collected the sticker books as a boy, and I wanted this app to feel like those did.

The concept: an iPad app serving as a live feed for Euro 2020. Live match scores, player detail down to international caps and goals, plus every team’s previous results and upcoming fixtures.

The work

An app for a European tournament has a genuinely international audience, so language couldn’t be an afterthought. I put a language selector in the bottom-left of the main navigation, reachable from anywhere in the app in a couple of taps, and made it part of onboarding so the experience is right from the first session.

Performance was the other constraint I took seriously. Older iPads deserve a working app too, which meant optimising code, images and assets, and being disciplined about animation rather than decorating every transition. Sometimes the honest answer is that a device can’t do everything, and you design for that.

The result

I started by absorbing UEFA’s Euro 2020 branding, which is a genuinely lovely piece of work, and built a UI kit from it. From there, an atomic component set kept every screen consistent. The whole experience was crafted in Figma, prototyped with touch gesture controls so it demos like the real thing.

It’s one of the most playful interfaces I’ve made, and it wears its sticker-book heritage proudly.
